NPR's Richard Gonzales reports that the election on whether to recall California Gov. Gray Davis will take place Oct. 7, the last possible date allowed by state law. Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante set the date Thursday, at the same time announcing that the ballot would include the second question on who should replace Davis if he is ousted. That gives candidates a few weeks to file papers and less than three months to campaign.
