American in Rwanda
Rosamond Carr followed a husband to the East African nation of Rwanda in 1949 and stayed. She left only briefly, when the American Embassy insisted she be evacuated during the 1994 genocide. A native New Yorker, Carr ran a farm, befriended characters like Dian Fosse, and opened an orphanage. As part of an occasional series, Americans Abroad, Dina Temple-Raston talked with Carr about her life.
