Oakland Drummer Aims to Help Kids Beat Violence
Oakland, Calif.'s reputation for brazen violence is well earned. Last week, a prominent journalist was gunned down in broad daylight in downtown Oakland, steps away from the city courthouse and a cultural center where Tacuma King teaches drumming.
King is the music director at the center and teaches drumming to kids from the streets. He believes the discipline and rhythms of music can help lift kids out of the violence that surrounds them.
