FCC Chief Offers Plan to Boost Local Media
FCC Chairman Michael Powell announces plans to create a task force to study how local media outlets serve their communities, and to grant more licenses to low-power local FM stations. The move comes amid a public outcry over new FCC rules, set to take effect Sept. 4, that will allow large media companies to control more TV stations in more markets. Hear NPR's Neda Ulaby.
