Taliban Fighters Killed in U.S.-Backed Attack

U.S. officials say at least 14 Taliban fighters were killed in a clash with government forces and U.S. troops backed by American warplanes. Afghan officials put the death toll higher. The battle took place in a remote mountainous area near the border with Pakistan. Over the past two weeks, the country has seen an upsurge in violence that officials blame on a resurgent Taliban.
