Hip-Hop Stars Invent Rivalry to Sell Albums

September 11, 2007 - Hip-hop star 50 Cent and rival Kanye West both released albums Tuesday. 50 Cent very publicly promised to stop recording solo albums if Kanye West's album Graduation sells more than his Curtis. Their rivalry — though manufactured to help sell their albums — can be traced to the roots of rap music.
