Former Filipino Leader Sentenced to Life Term

After a trial that has gone on for six years, former Philippines President Joseph Estrada is sentenced to life in prison for plunder. A court found him guilty of four counts of corruption. The court says Estrada took insurance kickbacks, tobacco taxes and payoffs from gambling lords and used it for personal spending. Six years ago, he was ousted from the presidency in a nonviolent revolt. Estrada, a former film star, protested his innocence and is likely to appeal his sentence.
