De'Monte Love and six small children were separated from their parents in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts. De'Monte — now eight years old — took care of all the children by himself, before they were rescued. His story inspired Rodney Vance's new children's book.

Vance — as well as De' Monte and his mother, Catrina Love — talk about the book and their harrowing experience.
