NATO's Involvement in World Hot Spots Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is in New York this week for the meeting of the United Nations general assembly. The assembly will be discussing Afghanistan, where NATO took over responsibility for security last summer. NATO involvement also continues in Iraq, Kosovo and Darfur.
