NPR's Tavis Smiley talks to attorney Meaza Ashenafi of Ethiopia and civil rights activist Sara Longwe of Zambia about the struggles facing women in Africa. The Hunger Project recently awarded Ashenafi and Longwe the Africa Prize for Leadership, which includes $50,000 each to support their work. Both women are credited with generating national legislation which expanded women's rights in areas including family, labor, economic law and civil rights.
