Wildfires Spark Forest Logging Debate
The Senate's Healthy Forest Initiative focuses on thinning forests that are thought to be vulnerable to fire. Environmentalists fear that the bill would allow timber companies too much leeway -- and courts too little influence -- as they log in protected areas. Proponents of the bill say that in the wake of the deadly wildfires affecting California, the bill should be passed without delay. NPR's David Welna reports.
