Pregnant Moose Get Cozy with Humans
The wild moose maintains its independence, but it will cozy up to humans when it needs to.
A study published this week found that pregnant moose in Yellowstone National Park hang out near roads and buildings for protection.
Joel Berger, a biologist with the Wildlife Conservation Society and author of the study, says grizzly bears feed on young moose. But the moose have realized that bears avoid areas populated by humans, making the locations safe places to give birth.
And moose are not the only animals to figure this out. Berger says many species around the globe are figuring out that areas near humans are relatively safe from predators.
Berger talks to Alex Chadwick about the moose report.
