Georgian President Shevardnadze Resigns

President Eduard Shevardnadze steps down as leader of the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. Shevardnadze's resignation comes after the opposition refused to accept the results of recent parliamentary elections, claiming they were rigged in favor of Shevardnadze's party.
