NPR's Scott Simon talks with reporter Hampton Sides about his article "The First to Die" in the December issue of Men's Journal. Sides tells the story of Second Lt. Shane Childers, who led a platoon of U.S. Marines into southern Iraq on the first day of the war and was the first member of the U.S. armed forces to die in the conflict.
