A Jazz Piano Christmas 2008

NPR presents an annual holiday tradition — with a Latin twist this year. Pianists Arturo O'Farrill, Eliane Elias, Rebeca Mauleon, Angel Echevarria and Ellis Marsalis visit the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for jazz improvisations on holiday classics.

In a concert at the Howlin' Wolf club, New Orleans musicians celebrate the holidays. Lars Edegran's New Orleans Jazz Band, Don Vappie's Creole Jazz Serenaders, Ellis Marsalis, and singers John Boutte and Topsy Chapman all take part in the holiday cheer.

This JazzSet is the second of two "Big River" concerts, both organized by pianist Peter Martin (pictured). The music flowed and so did the money for flood relief. This program present a New Orleans style musical embrace with Ellis Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Victor Goines, Herlin Riley and others.
