Revisiting Topeka 40 Years After 'Brown'

Forty years ago this Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that separating school children for no reason other than their race was unconstitutional. The landmark case is known as Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka. In his majority opinion, Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote that separate but equal educational facilities are inherently unequal. These words would change us as a nation, and the community of Topeka would never be the same. NPR's Claudio Sanchez went to Topeka and spoke with those directly affected by the decision.
