Thurgood Marshall Retires from Supreme Court

In a surprise announcement at the end of the Supreme Court's 1990-91 session, Justice Thurgood Marshall announces his retirement after 24 years on the bench. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports, and NPR's Noah Adams speaks with federal Judge Robert L. Carter, who worked with Marshall at the NAACP on the landmark Brown v. Board of Education desegregation case.
