The African-American Soldier Today

The "collective" American soldier is profiled as Time magazine's Person of the Year. How has the military changed for black soldiers, and how do African-Americans view the armed forces? NPR's Tony Cox talks with Shawn Lindsey, publisher of Color of Service magazine, and Leon Thompson, who serves as the magazine's chief executive officer.
