It's not the typical calendar featuring sexy movie stars, cute animals or famous works of art. Instead, the Beauty & Strength 2004 Calendar offers pictures and stories of homeless and formerly homeless women who have found a haven at a Seattle church and its shelter, Mary's Place.

NPR's Bob Edwards talks to Hester Garrett, the calendar's January model, who had lived at the local YWCA and has since found a job as a city bus driver, and Rachel Small, a missionary who organized the Church of Mary Magdalene's calendar project. The $10 calendars are available through the church's Web site.
