In the midst of a week of bad news and scandals surrounding high-achieving black men, NPR blogger and commentator John Ridley finds a strong black man to praise: Donald Driver, a Green Bay Packers receiver who overcame many difficulties in his early life.

Ridley says there are millions of men like Driver, but they are hard to find in the news.

"The media tends to focus on black men when they're acting like, or actually being, thugs," he says.
