Animal Collective Sets off the Fireworks

Animal Collective (300)
Allie Pasquier

Panda Bear of Animal Collective.

November 6, 2007Listening to the Animal Collective CD made me a little nervous about an in-studio session. The record is a unique, experimental and crazed collection of adventurous rock. The band members worked hard on this record to make it playable live, and from what I witnessed that morning, they pulled it off. For such a eclectic sound, they were extremely in sync with both harmonies and instrumentation. It turned out to be one of the most creative and entertaining sets ever on my show.

More About Animal Collective

Formed in 2000, Animal Collective began by intersecting folk, noise, ambient drone and psychedelic music into an intriguing, sometimes frustrating mess. The work of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Dibb) and Geologist (Brian Weitz), Animal Collective's six studio albums have seen the band progress to a unified sound, but they remain rooted in melody and weirdness. In addition to their latest CD, Strawberry Jam, individual bandmates have also released albums this year: Person Pitch by Panda Bear and Pullhair Rubeye by Avey Tare and Kria Brekkan.
