If you'd like your music featured on Second Stage (or All Songs Considered), you first have to audition. Send us your CD - it can be a homemade or professional studio recording - and we'll give it a listen. WE DO NOT ACCEPT ELECTRONIC SUBMISSIONS. Please do not email any attached audio files. We automatically delete all emails with attachments.

Second Stage is open to all artists.

Print out the submission form below, tape it to your CD and mail it to:

PLEASE REMOVE ALL SHRINK WRAP from your CD. PLEASE DO NOT OVER-PACKAGE your submission. We get hundreds of CDs a week and it really slows everything down if we have to chop through layers of packing tape and shrink wrap. A simple padded envelope will do nicely.

After sending us your CD, please wait. Do not write or call. It make take five weeks or more from the time we get your music to hear a sample of it. We listen to some of everything we get. However, we cannot guarantee we will put your music on the show.

If you pass the audition and we put you on the show, we will call or email you to let you know.

Unfortunately, because of staff limitations, we can't contact artists who do not make it past the audition. We are also unable to return CDs.

The following form grants us permission to feature your music on Second Stage. Please fill out and include with your submission.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You still retain all ownership and full rights to your music entirely. This form only allows us to feature a song from your CD on Second Stage, streaming from the NPR web site and in the Second Stage daily podcast.

The undersigned is the owner of, or owns rights to, certain materials concerning the artist or performers ____________________ (the "Artist") as follows:

In consideration of the inclusion of the Materials in National Public Radio, Inc.'s ("NPR") program Second Stage (the "Program"), the undersigned irrevocably grants to NPR the transferable right to reproduce, transmit, retransmit, distribute, archive, digitize, display, publicly perform, copy, stream, customize and digitally distribute including, but not limited to, downloads, on-demand and interactive uses, the Materials, in whole or in part, on a non-exclusive basis, worldwide, in perpetuity in any media now or hereafter known. NPR shall have the right to edit the Materials at its sole discretion.

The undersigned also consents to the use of its name and the name of the Artist in connection with the use of the Materials on the Program or with any credits that may be received in the distribution of the Materials and any publicly and related institutional promotional purposes NPR may undertake.
