Spirit Rover Examining Soil on Mars

The NASA rover Spirit extends its robotic arm to further explore the surface of Mars, seeking physical evidence that water once flowed over the planet's surface.
A careful analysis of the soil near Spirit's landing site may provide that evidence. So far the mission is a success for NASA's engineers. Now the science team is awaiting big results. NPR's Joe Palca reports.
