Attorneys for a high school football player convicted of aggravated child molestation and statutory rape with a fellow student told the Georgia Supreme Court Wednesday that the automatic 10-year sentence for Marcus Dixon was cruel and unusual punishment. NPR's Tavis Smiley talks with BJ Bernstein, counsel for the amicus curiae for the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, who prepared the appeal for Dixon's case. We also hear from Dixon's guardian Ken Jones and the district attorney's office of Rome, Georgia's Judicial Circuit.
