Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra was the real star of the Eighth Annual Grammy Awards. His album and its title track La Llave de mi Corazon captured five awards, including record of the year, album of the year, and song of the year.

Among other top honors, Ricky Martin won for best male pop vocal, Laura Pausini for best female pop vocal album, and Jesse and Joy for best new artist. The ceremony, in Las Vegas for the first time, was broadcast in more than one hundred countries.
