NPR's Robert Siegel talks with Ahmed Rashid, author of the article "The Mess in Afghanistan" in the Feb. 12 issue of The New York Review of Books. Rashid talks about the re-emergence of the Taliban and the failure to rein in the warlords in Afghanistan. Rashid says the United States and its allies are only now acknowledging the role of economic aid in loosening fundamentalist grip.
