Oklahoma Lawmaker's Koran Comments Draw Fire

text sizeAAA
November 15, 2007

Some lawmakers in Oklahoma have turned down free copies of the Koran from a state panel on diversity. The move comes after a Tulsa legislator claims the Muslim holy book condones the killing of innocent people.

Islamic groups say they're disturbed by the statement and say they need to do a better job of educating Americans about the Koran.

Scott Gurian of member station KGOU reports from Norman, Okla.
