A series of high-court rulings pave the way for Gen. Pervez Musharraf to continue as Pakistan's president while resigning as chief of the armed forces. But a state of emergency remains in place in Pakistan. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte met with Musharraf over the weekend, but the visit produced few results.
