Senate Panel Presses Officials on Waterboarding
A Senate Judiciary panel on Tuesday pressed military brass and Justice Department lawyers about the interrogation technique of waterboarding, and about what goes on at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay.
The officials refused to say whether waterboarding violates the Geneva Conventions, and refused to call it torture. Non-administration witnesses suggested that refusal was part of an effort to protect Americans who have carried out waterboarding.
