The new film, The Great Debaters, is based on the true story of an all-black college debate team which triumphs in a national championship.

Two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington plays the team's temperamental coach — and does double duty as the film's director.

Washington talks to Farai Chideya about the new movie, his successful career and the future of black film.
