The national debt has climbed to $22.4 trillion, and one out of every 73 U.S. households filed for bankruptcy last year. NPR's Tony Cox talks to economist Julianne Malveaux and Williams Spriggs of the National Urban League Institute for Opportunity and Equality about why the U.S. government and average citizens have bills coming out of their ears — with no apparent end in sight.
