FDA Panel Approves Artificial Heart
A U.S. Food and Drug Administration panel votes to back the use of an artificial heart as a temporary device in patients near death who are awaiting a heart transplant. The FDA usually follows the advice of the panel. If approved by the agency, it will be the first artificial heart on the market. NPR's Joe Shapiro reports.
