January 7, 2008 - The Acorn make introspective, atmospheric indie-folk led by gentle-voiced frontman Rolf Klausener. The Canadian group first appeared in 2003 with a collection of folk-flavored electro-rock songs called The Pink Ghosts. They return with a more ambitious concept album that documents the life of Klausener's mother, Gloria Esperanza Montoya, who immigrated to Montreal from Honduras in the 1970s. Drawing it's title from her name, Glory Hope Mountain is an intimate and beautifully orchestrated album with heartfelt stories of personal tragedy and triumph.
Rolf Klausener wrote and recorded Glory Hope Mountain based on interviews he conducted with his mother in 2006. The songs recount her early days in Honduras where she survived floods, an abusive father, and lost her mother who died giving birth. Gloria Montoya moved to Canada in 1972.
Klausener is joined on the album by Jeff Debutte, Keiko Devaux, Howie Tsui, T. Jeffrey Malecki, and Shaun Weadick. The Acorn describe their music as "the splishsplashsplosh of aminotic fluids sluicing through a rusty sewer grate."
