NATO Expands Membership and Mission

President Bush presides over a ceremony welcoming the newest NATO members: Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The expansion occurs at a time when NATO is involved outside Europe -- in Afghanistan -- and as it considers a role in Iraq. NPR's Michele Kelemen reports.
