California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Thursday endorsed John McCain for the Republican presidential nomination, saying the Arizona senator has been a crusader for protecting the economy and the environment.

Flanked by McCain and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Schwarzenegger delivered his endorsement after a tour of a solar-energy company.

"He is a great American leader and an extraordinary hero, and that's why I'm endorsing Sen. McCain to be the next president of the United States," Schwarzenegger said. "He has proven over and over again that he is reaching across the aisle to get things done."

Giuliani threw his support behind McCain after coming in third in Florida's Republican Primary on Tuesday.
