Markets Dive After Economic Activity Report

The major stock indices were all down Tuesday on a report from the Institute for Supply Management that showed a stunning drop in economic activity in the service sector.

The number was low enough that many analysts reacted as if it were proof that the economy is already in recession.

The ISM number has its problems, however, and isn't always a reliable indicator.
