For the 'Boys of Crenshaw,' Sports as a Ticket Out

Author Michael Sokolove talks with NPR's Tavis Smiley about the 1979 group of inner city teenagers, known as the "Boys of Crenshaw," who remain the greatest high school baseball team to have ever played the sport. Sokolove traces the lives of boys who would come to be sports icons and who saw their athletic ability as salvation from the inner city they once lived in, in The Ticket Out: Darryl Strawberry and the Boys of Crenshaw.
