April 23, 2009 - On April 5, 2009, in Los Angeles, Dee Dee Bridgewater received the Duke Ellington Masters of Jazz Award from the Friends of Jazz at UCLA. The occasion was Ellington's 110th Birthday Anniversary Festival of Music. The presentation was made by Kenny Burrell, the guitarist, long-time UCLA faculty member and champion of all things Ellington.
Previous winners include Hank Jones, Terry Gibbs, Lalo Schifrin, James Moody, Horace Silver, Nancy Wilson. Congratulations to Dee Dee.
