Iraqi Council Nominates Physician for Prime Minister

The Iraqi Governing Council nominates Iyad Allawi, a Shiite Muslim physician and council member, to become Iraq's interim prime minister after the June 30 transfer of sovereignty. U.S. administrator Paul Bremer congratulated Allawi, but it's not clear if Allawi is Bremer's and the United Nations' choice. Allawi spent years in exile and once helped lead a coup attempt against Saddam Hussein. Hear NPR's Peter Kenyon.
