Bush Meets with Pope at the Vatican

In a meeting with President Bush at the Vatican, Pope John Paul II, a vocal opponent of the war in Iraq, calls for a speedy return to Iraqi sovereignty. Bush presented the pontiff with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian award. Bush later met with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a staunch supporter of the war.
