Susan Stone
Contributing Reporter/Producer
Susan Stone is a contributing reporter/producer for NPR based in Berlin, Germany. Before relocating to Germany for a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship in 2005, she was a producer, editor, reporter and director at NPR's headquarters in Washington for 10 years. Most recently, Stone was a producer and director for the weekend editions of NPR's award-winning news magazine All Things Considered, where she created a signature monthly music feature for the show.
Some of her favorite radio moments include recording an autopsy, taking a nine-hour ride-along with the LAPD, profiling al-Jazeera's newly opened Washington bureau and smelling Napoleon's cologne at the Osmotheque, the archive of disappeared perfumes in Versailles, France.
Stone reports on various topics from SARS to sitcoms, but she can usually be heard doing stories on the media and culture, with an emphasis on audiences and trends.
Before coming to NPR, Stone received a master's degree from the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Pennsylvania. She also spent part of 2001 as a Radio and Television News Directors Association/Foundation cultural exchange journalist in Germany.
