Commentator Andrei Codrescu turned a trio of students in his English class at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge into a "poetry combine," exposing them to the same experiences in the French Quarter of New Orleans with the assignment to write poems about the people they met. In some cases, that wound up being the poets themselves. The combine encounters a hot dog vendor, a stripper and a club owner.
