Major record labels have been dealing with the issue of online pirating of music. While they struggle, independent labels have been doing well. Independents have been a part of the music business since the dawn of recorded sound — Genet , Motown, and Atlantic Records were all influential independents. Marcie Sillman of member station KUOW reports.
