Here's a collection of American tunes for this Columbus Day. First, the Hoedown from the ballet Rodeo, by Copland, as played by the International Sejong Soloists. Then in Los Alamos, New Mexico recently, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to their hosts, with the "Souvenir of America" — Variations on Yankee Doodle by Henri Vieuxtemps. Constantin Orbelian conducts. And American composer William Schuman set the hymn tune Chester for orchestra in his New England Tryptich. Andrew Litton is on the podium at the Eastern Music Festival.
