The 968th U.S. military fatality in Iraq was Marine Lance Corporal Arredondo, 20 years old, of Randolph, Mass. He was killed on Aug. 25 by a sniper in Najaf. His death has reverberated deeply through two families back home, prompting a celebration of his short life, and an additional tragedy. NPR's John Burnett reports.
