Trumpeter Red Mike Acampora died recently at the age of 91. He was the leader of one of New York's oldest Italian marching bands.

The band's tradition of playing at funerals continued despite the erosion of Little Italy. An expanding Chinese community embraced the bands.

The feature was produced for Sound Portraits by Piya Kochhar.
