Palestinian Leader Abbas Takes Steps to Secure Gaza

Palestinian security forces are deploying in parts of the Gaza Strip for the first time in years, to deter attacks by Palestinian militants on Jewish settlements and nearby Israeli towns. Newly elected Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas met with leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad in hopes of formalizing a truce.
