Weighing the Meaning of an 'Ownership Society'

In the State of The Union address this week, President Bush discussed Social Security reforms as one of many initiatives that he said promote "an ownership society." Sociologist Michael Sherraden talks about the meaning of the expression "ownership society" and ways in which owning assets affect various socioeconomic groups.
