Verizon Announces Plans to Buy MCI

Verizon announces a deal to buy MCI for more than $6.7 billion in cash and stock. This is the third major telecommunications merger in two months. The deal follows SBC Communications' plans to acquire AT&T and the announced merger of Sprint and Nextel.
