Making Sense of the Painkiller Hearings

The Food and Drug Administration concludes three days of hearings on the safety of various painkillers, but consumers may be puzzled at the results. An advisory panel told the FDA that drugs such as Vioxx and Celebrex don't have to come off the market, but that strict warnings are needed because of a risk of heart attack and stroke.
